In our opinion, there is no bad season
in Moab. Each has it's own particular magic, charm, and photographic
opportunities.
WINTER
Our winter season is usually mild and offers
a beautiful southerly light throughout the day. For this reason,
we think it is the most photographically productive season. Our
nearby 13,000+ snow covered Lasal Mountains remain bright with
snow on the peaks all winter. A fresh dusting in the lowlands
and canyons blanket the red rock formations accenting their grace
and contours.
Temperatures can range from in the mid 20's to 50's during the
day with teens and 20's at night. Another benefit of visiting
Canyonlands in the winter is that it is considered the off season
to most tourists. You basically have the town and National Parks
to yourselves. February is a very popular time to visit as folks
from the colder climates are needing to enjoy our warmer sunny
days. |

SPRING
Spring is always welcome in canyon country.
Desert wildflowers begin peaking out of the red sand in late
March. The cactus, desert shrubs, and ground flowers are in their
full blooming and often fragrant glory late May and early June.
There is usually snow remaining on the high mountain peaks as
well. Daytime temperatures range from the 70's to high 80's early
spring to high 80-90's the closer we get to summer. The lows
average in the 40's to 50's at night.
TIP: Easter week features Moab's annual
Jeep Safari. You may want to avoid Thursday, Friday, Saturday
and Easter Sunday. |

SUMMER
We won't kid you. Our summers are usually
hot with daytime temperatures averaging 100 + degrees June through
early September. The good news is, we have very low humidity
which makes the heat more tolerable. Our lows are a balmy 70
- 80's at night.....a lovely temperature for moonlit walks.
We start our sunrise tours in the lower
elevations while it is still cool and work our way up to the
cooler-higher elevations in air conditioned comfort for the sunset
locations. We usually discourage full day tours in
the summer months as they are 16 hours long. Instead, many folks
choose to do a half day sunrise and a half day sunset tour and
have us bring them back to Moab while the sun is directly overhead.
It is during the summer months when the
kids are out of school that we provide most of our "family
tours." JC and Deb LOVE children (Deb is a Pediatric
Nurse). We truly enjoy entertaining children on a safe nature
exploration while Mom and Dad are nearby photographing the area.
Parents like to know that there are many children oriented activities
in Moab including a water park for their enjoyment. |

FALL
We consider fall to be our most glorious
season. It is also our busiest. The summer heat is subsiding
and the light becomes more enjoyable to work with again. Fall
colors begin in the high country in mid September and gradually
work their way down to the lower elevations and canyons. Mid
October to early November features glowing yellow cottonwood
trees against red wall cliffs. There is also a surprising number
of flowering fall vegetation. Average daytime temperatures range
in the 70's - 80's with lows in the 40's and 50's. |
